Sharp Community Medical Group executives

Dr. Sergio Flores graduated from San Diego State University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He graduated from U.C. San Francisco School of Medicine with an MD degree in 1989. He completed his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at U.C. Irvine Medical Center in 1994 and then Board Certified in both. After three years of practice in Eureka CA, he returned home to San Diego in 1997 where he continues to practice medicine at San Diego Digestive Disease Consultants.

Dr. Flores was elected President of Sharp Community Medical Group in July 2022. Prior to his presidency, he served on the board and executive committee for 24 years. He serves on the Sharp HealthCare Board of Directors from 2005-2012 and 2022-present and continues to serve on the Sharp HealthCare Finance committee since 2009. He was elected to the Board of Sharp Health Plan in 2023.

Dr. Flores is the Chair of the Board of the California Medical Association and has served on their board since 2012. He also serves on the Board and is a past president of the San Diego County Medical Society.

Dr. Flores volunteered as a pre-med student at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center and San Ysidro Health Center. He has previously volunteered and served as President of the Coronado Youth Soccer League, President of the San Diego GI Society, and served on the Coronado Hospital Foundation Board.

As CEO of Sharp Community, Paul Durr leads a team of 260 employees who are dedicated to supporting our 860 primary and specialty care physicians. Our independent physicians practice in more than 350 practice locations throughout San Diego, from as far North as Oceanside and Temecula, East to Alpine, and South to Coronado and Imperial Beach. Our patients have access to 20 urgent cares and 10 local hospitals, including all Sharp HealthCare, Palomar Health and Rady Children's hospitals. Each year we touch more than 350,000 lives, representing 10% of San Diego County's population.

Paul has a 25-year history with Sharp HealthCare, working primarily with Sharp Community. Paul joined Sharp Community in 1992. He served as Chief Financial Officer for 12 years and helped lead the medical group to become one of the most successful independent practice associations in the country. In 1995, Paul established the Sharp HealthCare Managed Care Finance Department responsible for the accounting and financial analysis of capitation contracts for the Sharp HealthCare system.

Most recently, Paul served as Vice President of Physician Network Development at Sharp HealthCare, focused on the launch of Sharp Care Physicians, Inc., a new network of Sharp-affiliated physicians in San Diego County. Prior to joining SCMG, Paul spent three years with Ernst and Young and in 1991 began working at Sharp HealthCare.

Paul received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of San Diego in 1986 and CPA certificate in 1990.

In 2007, Paul Durr was named "CFO of the Year" by the San Diego Business Journal and Robert Half.

Christopher McGlone is the Chief Operating Officer for Sharp Community, the largest IPA in San Diego County and one of the largest in the state of California with over 130,000 managed care lives. Christopher joined Sharp Community in 1993, and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the medical group, including Claims, Eligibility, Encounters, Network Management, Customer Service, Marketing & Communications, Contracts and Business Development.

While at Sharp Community, Christopher successfully guided the group through tremendous growth while implementing automated processes in the areas of claims, eligibility, encounters, member services and capitation. He was instrumental in leading Sharp Community to profitability via the development of innovative capitation programs for physicians and ancillary providers. He was the executive sponsor for Sharp Community's electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) system implementation.

Christopher serves on the Board of Directors of "ICE", the Healthcare Industry Collaborative Effort and served for over ten years on the board of APG, America's Physician Groups (previously CAPG).

Christopher received a Masters of Business Administration from the University of San Diego and has over thirty years of experience in the medical, health care and insurance industries, and has held management positions at FHP Healthcare and Progressive Insurance.
